Do I need to purchase a new Norsync Cloud VM instance for each database I want to synchronize?
No, each Norsync Cloud instance supports an unlimited number of server-side databases.
What's the difference between an external database instance and an internal database instance?
An external database instance resides on an external database server, typically an Azure SQL Database server running in the same Azure account as your VM. An internal database instance resides inside the Norsync Cloud VM, which is running SQL Server Express. Since this version of SQL Server has strict database size limitations, internal instances may be more suited for development/prototyping than production systems.
Do I need to set up filter rules before I'll see data in the client app?
No - by default all data will be synced. If a table is not affected by a rule, all data in that table will be accessible on all clients.
What do the colors/dots signify in the sync setup graph?
Each table with a filter rule is assigned its own color, and other tables that are affected by this rule through relationships with that table are identified by a colored dot.
Can I control how the filter rules propagate through the graph?
If you have selected a table you will see a sub-graph identifying which other tables are or can potentially be affected by the rule on that table. Clicking on the other tables will toggle the propagation.
I'm clicking on another table in the sub-graph view but nothing is happening?
In some cases a rule has to affect neighboring tables to preserve foreign key constraints. For example, if you have a rule on the invoice table, that rule has to also affect the invoice_item table to ensure a client database doesn't contain invoice_item records that refer to invoice records that don't exist on that client.
